Weekend Round Up

This past weekend marked the yearly tea party my running buddy and I throw. This year out friends little ones are a bit older so it was much more exciting to cater to the miniatures.

We picked a princess theme and got prepared to stuff people’s bellies have some tea and spend some time catching up. Seeing how I am still doing my 100 days of digestive clean up the food theme was fresh and detoxifying. The salads and chicken skewers were a hit and as always the mayo free deviled eggs and hummus were a crowd favorite.

The adults had lots or fun food so I figured it was only fair to make sure the miniatures also had a healthy, organic variety of foods for them to choose from. We put it in a muffin tin so it was little a small buffet for them.

Lots of chatting, eating and running after little ones made for a busy and fun afternoon. Once the party was over my co-party thrower and I were ready to put our feet up. It was a great afternoon and we were lucky enough to be left with lots of left overs so good prep this week was made super simple, besides having to take care of the protein portion of my meals for the week my veggies are completely taken care of which is a nice change of pace.

I hope you all had a great weekend and I hope you had as much luck with food prep as I did this weekend.

Happy Monday.

Motivational Monday – weekend workouts

Yup you heard it first I workout on weekends. Traditionally would give myself Sundays off as a rest day but the new training plan I am on has me resting Mondays instead. Because of this change in my regular programming it took a substantial mental push to make sure I put on my gym clothing and got my but in gear Sunday morning.

I went through the internal back and forth of “maybe I will just skip this one Sunday and workout on Monday this time” to the “my belly hurts I couldn’t possibly workout” and the ever famous “I am too busy I don’t have time to spend an hour at the gym”. After trying to talk myself out of it I eventually went on auto pilot and reminded myself that it was only an hour and my reward would be getting to have a full Monday off.

Having Monday off this week was fairly attractive because I was writing an exam for school in the morning and the idea of having to do nothing but some meal prep and watching Charmed until my husband got home from work was pretty appealing.

Also as it turned out hitting up the gym at 8am on a Sunday have me loads of space for my workout, I didn’t have to share equipment and I was out of there before most people started to come in for their own workouts. Also lucky for me the gym is located next to a Starbucks so I had some prime study space available right after working out.

Basically after trying to talk myself out of the gym I realized that workout on the weekend has now made me less busy for the week, gave me an excuse to study some more (not that I needed one) and I got to finish up some weekend errands on the way home, all before noon.

What I am trying to say here is your motivation for getting yourself to the gym, lacing up your runners or showing up on your yoga mat can be as simple as having a free evening during the week. Also early morning workouts help to kick start your metabolism and your day. You will surprise yourself at just how much you can accomplish and still have time to relax with family.

I hope you took that time to give yourself some time this weekend. Even if it wasn’t a workout, maybe it was time with a loved one you haven’t spoken to in a while, a relaxing bubble bath or taking the time to plan and prep your meals for the week. Whatever it was I hope it served you well.

I hope you all had a great weekend and happy Monday.

Updates and things

So it has become official I am becoming terrible at remembering my weekend round ups. I am going to go ahead and pass the blame for this on over to school. I swear I try just with an exam or test literally every other day my mind has been going there as opposed to doing a weekend round up.

I know it isn’t really the best excuse but it is all I got. This will be my last weekend round up and then I am going to be mixing up the format a little bit so that I am less likely to forget or skip a Monday post. I am actually pretty excited for the new Monday format and I hope that you all enjoy the little refresher.

Anyways, my weekend round up. Well this weekend was another busy one but not quite as nutty as the week before.

We had some beautiful weather so I was in the garden and doing some spring cleaning outside before some beautiful April showers took over for the rest of the weekend. I love cleaning out my garden after a winter of that awful white stuff. I make me so excited to see the blooms and smell the lavender.

I also did my regular yoga teaching, yoga going, and went on my first outdoor run of the season.  I am still starting off pretty slow for the running because my back isn’t quite at 100% still so I just went on a calm 2km loop with my husband to test things out.  Besides some slight stiffness I would say that I am definitely getting there and will hopefully be back up to my regular 10km runs in no time.

20140415-091529.jpgAfter my Saturday afternoon running around, I spent most of my Sunday snuggled up on my couch reading and studying for my Monday morning final exam.  But in all the studying and reading I found the time to take a little break in the morning to make these delicious treats….PB&J Cups (recipe will follow later this week).

20140415-091543.jpgThen Sunday evening my husband and I sat down to a tasty healthy filled dinner of roast beef, homemade potato crisps and a salad with my new favorite homemade tahini dressing.  It is my new favorite because I don’t really eat creamy style dressing but this one is vegan so no belly ache from dairy for this girl.

20140415-091559.jpgThen I ended the weekend with some kitten cuddles. My little orange guy (Morris) has some hot spots and has been going to town on them so he is on another dose of medicine from the vet.  We are hoping this will get him all cleared up.

20140415-091609.jpgAll in all the weekend was pretty great. Felt so very short but it was great.   Hope you all had a great weekend and a great Monday.

Keep your eyes peeled next week for our new Monday installments.

Weekend Round Up – A day late

This weekend/ Monday really just got away from me. Last week I had the opportunity to sub in some other teacher’s yoga classes, as well as teach my two classes per week. It was really great to have such and opportunity and it also kind of three my regular weekend schedule of meal prep, studying and maxin’ and relaxin’ out the window.

This weekend I kind of resembled the Flash. Zooming from one place to the next.

Besides my zooming back and forth and not actually sitting down until Sunday evening I had a pretty great weekend. Lots of yoga (teaching and for myself), lots of reading, and starting to get ready for a deep and dirty spring clean!

Oh my goodness I know this is super weird and maybe a little sad but I just can’t wait to do a huge spring clean through the house. Open the windows amp up the air purifiers and wash EVERYTHING.

20140407-214042.jpgIt is just something about cleaning away the winter that makes me feel so happy, light, relaxed and peaceful. Also seeing how for the past month I have been cleaning up my insides and digestion it only feel fitting for my home to follow the same process.

Am I the only one that goes bananas for spring cleaning? Is anyone else excited to give their home a good scrub down?

Happy Tuesday!

Weekend Round Up

This weekend started out with one of the longest sleeps of my life. After not having the greatest sleep Thursday evening I was ready to come home from work and just crash. After attempting to get in a full workout at the gym Friday evening I came home took a wonderfully relaxing and detoxifying Epsom salt bath and packed it in all before the sun went down.

I woke up Saturday feeling refreshed and ready for the day. My morning was filled with yoga plan revision and heading to the gym bright and early to get warmed up. I taught a super relaxing and rejuvenating restorative yoga class and then headed home to cram in some school work before heading out again to teach my regularly scheduled Rock N’ Roll yoga class that afternoon.

After all the yoga teaching was done for the day it was time to get ready for the evening. I was having some ladies over for a nice evening in. We played some Just Dance on the wii and got the opportunity to chat and catch up. For the evening I made some sweet potato kale bites which were pretty tasty and everyone else pitched in and brought other tasty snacks to share with the group. It was great getting everyone together to say hello, between kids, work and other life commitments it can be challenging to get everyone in a room together.

Sunday was much more relaxed with some more school work, food prep and watching some bad TV on Netflix it was a nice and relaxing afternoon.

Now it is Monday and my school/work week has started up again. I am excited to dive into my new course and learn more about healthy lifelong diet planning.

I hope you all had wonderful weekends and that your Monday is a great start to this week ahead

Weekend Round Up – Yoga Retreat

This past weekend marked the first, of hopefully many, yoga retreats. Myself and another teacher planned out four classes for the participants (a wonderful group of women).

A few years ago for my bachlorette my girlfriends knowing my obsession for yoga found a cottage only 45 minutes out of the city with a full yoga studio in the basement. The studio has big bright windows and more importantly heated floors!

The weekend started off with a powerful pre-dinner yoga session to wake us all up from our Fridays in the office and to get everyone pumped for the rest of the weekend. After yoga we all enjoyed a bean filled light version of chili and a variety of other snacks. Seeing how I am currently doing 100 days of clean eating I used my treat for the month to be able to sit back and have some wine with the other ladies. We stayed up and chatted until we realized we would be getting up for more yoga the following morning and called it a night.

Saturday morning I was up bright and early practicing out my restorative class. I generally tend towards the more flow like powerful classes, but after just doing a powerful class and having some wine I thought it would be a nice treat to do something more rejuvenating. And aside from a spider scare I believe the class went pretty smoothly.

Saturday afternoon Angela (our second teacher) was finally able to get away from the office and join us. After settling in having some of the delicious salads, veggies and fruits that we had for lunch it was time for everyone to start getting ready for our evening class.

Saturday evening I cooked up one of my favorite meals of scallops, pesto chickpeas and a mix of steamed and roasted veggies. It was so nice to be with a group of women who were open to eating delicious clean meals all weekend so I wouldn’t have to use my next four months of treat days while on my 100 day challenge. After supper we all settled in for more chatting in front of the fire before packing it in for the day.

Sunday was our last morning at the cottage and we wrapped it up with a pregnancy friendly power class. Due to my current back issues I wasn’t able to participate in the class but that just meant that breakfast would be ready for everyone once they were done their morning practice.

Then it was time to head back into the city and start getting ready for the week. I was lucky enough to get some down time while at the retreat to study for my first test since going back to school so I didn’t have to do any crash studying Sunday evening when I got home. Instead I spent my time soaking in an Epsom salt bath doing what I could to show my back a little love before getting a healthy supper ready for my husband and myself.

So far the clean eating challenging has been going well, I am already starting to see my eczema fading away and my skin clearing up. It is always encouraging when you see the positive benefits to cutting out the junk from your daily diet. One of the best parts of my challenge is that I also just started getting organic food deliveries to help me not only stick to my plan but also to encourage me to eat a variety of fruits and veggies that I might not buy on a regular basis.

I you are all having wonderful Mondays!

Weekend Round Up – more Birthdays

This weekend was my first weekend in the new studio for Rock n’ Roll yoga. It is funny how something as small as a change in venue can have your nerves firing off as though you are teaching your first class.

Nerves aside the class was great. The space at Studio X was amazing, bright, cozy and clean. All the wonderful students who came to the first class were impressed and pleased with the new digs, so before class even started we were all starting off on the right foot.

After class Saturday afternoon it was back home to get ready for the final stages of a friend’s birthday surprise. We had informed her that we would hang out but she had no idea we would be surprising her.

Her fiancé did an amazing job of being sneaky and getting her out of the house for an hour so we would have enough time to decorate and prepare a bunch of her favorite foods

20140303-095350.jpgWhen she came in she totally didn’t suspect a thing. But once she saw us she was completely surprised! After attempting to run away from the surprise it all sunk in and she was excited to be hanging out with a small group of friends while snacking on some of her favour it foods.20140303-095402.jpgAfter a great night Saturday I was up early Sunday morning to tidy up a little and then had a nice relaxing day filled with my right now fav TV show Burn Notice and lots of snuggling with my kittens.

Now it is Monday and my first day of school. I am definitely excited to start learning and relearning how to take notes and pay attention for more than an hour at a time.

20140303-100233.jpgI hope everyone had a happy Monday.
